Understanding List Stats

In this article I will explain what the list stats are and how they differ from the contacts in your list.

When viewing your list reports in Emercury, you’ll see a set of list stats. These stats show aggregate data about your campaigns and provide a quick health check of your list.

How to View List Stats

  • Go to Contacts → Lists.

  • Select the list you want to view.

  • Click View to open the list stats page.

Important to Know: Aggregate Stats

List stats are aggregate metrics. This means they reflect total activity across all campaigns sent to the list — not unique subscriber counts.

Example:

  • If you have 1 subscriber and you send them 100 campaigns:

    • Sent will show 100.

    • Delivered will show 100 (if all were delivered).

    • If they opened 20 of those emails, Opened will show 20 (20%).

    • If they clicked in all 20 opens, the Click Rate will show 100% (20 clicks).

Key point: Stats are about messages and actions, not how many subscribers you have.

If you want to see exactly which subscribers opened, clicked, or unsubscribed, you’ll need to use segments or filters.

Definitions of List Stats

  • Sent – Total number of messages sent to the list.

  • Delivered – Total number of messages delivered successfully.

  • Opened – Total number of opens (a single subscriber can open multiple times).

  • Opened (Unique) – Counts each subscriber’s open once per message.

  • Clicked – Total number of clicks (multiple links and multiple clicks are all counted).

  • Clicked (Unique) – Counts each subscriber’s click once per message (per URL).

  • Unsubscribes – Total unsubscribe actions taken.

  • Complaints – Total spam complaints received.

  • Forwards – Number of times a contact used the “forward to a friend” link.

  • Nevermail – Number of submissions of the Nevermail form (not the total of Nevermail subscribers).

Unsubscribes vs. Unsubscribers

It’s important to distinguish between:

  • List Stat “Unsubscribes” → How many times subscribers clicked “unsubscribe.”

  • Unsubscribers in your list → Actual contacts with unsubscribe status in your account.

Why the difference?

  • Once a subscriber requests to be unsubscribed, they keep that status across all lists in your account.

  • This means you may see unsubscribers in a new list import even if you never mailed them from that list — Emercury protects you from emailing people who have opted out.

Summary

  • List stats = aggregate activity metrics, not unique subscriber counts.

  • To find exact subscribers who opened, clicked, or unsubscribed, use segments/filters.

  • Unsubscribes (stat) shows actions taken, while unsubscribers (contacts) shows current suppressed contacts across your account.

Understanding list stats helps you measure performance accurately and keep your email practices compliant.
